A friend took me out to the beach. It was a beautiful day and he told me he loved me. We kid around, trying to write to each other in Spanish. I thought I would thank him in Spanish and tell him that I love him as well.

Gracias por el maravilloso tiempo que pasamos juntos. Te quiero.
"Beautiful" in Spanish is "hermoso", but nobody says "hermoso tiempo"; instead we say "maravilloso tiempo" ("wonderful time").
"I love you" can be said in two different ways: "Te amo" (very poetic but not used much, and "Te quiero" (much more used).
I am a Spanish native speaker with some experience in love letters. :)
Good luck with your romance.
